GEPCO tariff & slabs

The NEPRA national uniform tariff — your rate depends on slab and category, not city.

The slab cliff — read this first

Cross 200 units and protected status can be lost for the following months — one heavy month can re-price your whole usage at unprotected rates and double the bill.

Also on your bill: fixed charges, fuel & quarterly adjustments, electricity duty, GST, PTV fee Rs 35, income tax, arrears and late surcharge.

Try the numbers yourself in the Bill Calculator.

Lifeline consumers

Very low usage (up to 100 units) is billed at lifeline rates — the lowest slabs — for consumers whose consumption stays within the lifeline limit. Status is decided by your usage history, not by application.

Base-tariff slabs used by the calculator, before monthly fuel/quarterly adjustments. The tariff printed on your bill prevails.

Reduce your GEPCO bill

The tariff rewards low, steady use. These are the levers that actually move the amount.

1 · Stay under 200 units

The single biggest saving. At or below a 200-unit average you keep protected status and pay roughly half the per-unit rate of unprotected slabs. Track your meter weekly.

2 · Mind peak hours

On time-of-use meters, evening peak hours cost more per unit. Shift iron, washing machine, water motor and AC load to off-peak hours where your tariff applies peak rates.

3 · Cool smart

AC at 26–27°C, serviced filters, sealed room gaps and fans running with the AC let you raise the thermostat without losing comfort — AC is usually the largest summer load.

4 · Kill standby load

TVs, chargers, routers and microwave clocks draw power all day. Switch boards off when rooms are empty, and prefer LED lighting throughout.

5 · Maintain appliances

A fridge with weak gasket rubber, a scaled geyser or an old water motor quietly adds units every day. Service or replace the worst offender first.

6 · Estimate before month-end

Read your meter mid-month and run the calculator. If you are heading over a slab, you still have two weeks to pull usage back.

GEPCO bill charges explained

A GEPCO bill is more than the cost of electricity. These charges, surcharges and taxes are set by NEPRA and the government, and appear on every DISCO bill.

Line on the billWhat it is
Cost of electricityUnits multiplied by your slab rate. The core energy charge.
FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment)A monthly plus or minus for the real fuel cost versus the reference cost. July 2026: Rs 2.0581 per unit.
QTR (Quarterly Tariff Adjustment)A quarterly per-unit adjustment for capacity and system costs. April-June 2026: Rs 0.5194 per unit (September-November 2026).
FC Surcharge (Financing Cost)A per-unit surcharge tied to power-sector debt, around 43 paisa.
Neelum-Jhelum Surcharge10 paisa per unit toward the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower loan.
Electricity DutyA provincial tax, around 1.5 percent of the energy charge.
GST (sales tax)Federal sales tax (18%) applied to the electricity charges.
PTV feeA fixed Rs 35 on domestic bills for public broadcasting.
Further or Extra TaxApplied to unregistered or commercial consumers.
Income taxWithholding tax that applies above a bill threshold. Non-filers pay 7.5% once the bill reaches Rs 25,000.
ArrearsUnpaid amounts carried forward from earlier months.

GEPCO tariff categories

GEPCO bills several consumer categories at different rates:

The residential tariff is set nationally by S.R.O. 279(I)/2026, the same slabs as every other company in Pakistan. See our official sources for the NEPRA notifications.

Fuel Price Adjustment (FCA) 2026

The Fuel Price Adjustment is a monthly per-unit charge or credit approved by NEPRA for the difference in fuel cost of an earlier month. That is why a GEPCO bill can rise even when you used the same units.

Current FCA: Rs 2.0581 per unit for July 2026 (applied on September 2026 bills). Rs 1.7267 for August 2026 has been requested for October 2026 and is not yet decided.

Recent FCA trend: January 2026 Rs 2.8, February Rs 3.0, March Rs 3.2, April Rs 3.4, May Rs 3.5 per unit. FCA varies each month. Always check your latest bill for the exact rate.

Use the GEPCO bill calculator to estimate your bill with the current FCA included.
